An Initiative to Empower People with Disabilities and Raise Community Awareness
"Try, don't give up!" - Ahmed told us. Ahmed who excels in mental arithmetic, expressed his message of perseverance and encouragement during an exhibition featuring the work and handicrafts of people with disabilities.
This event is part of the "Core of Empowerment" initiative, which has been running all week, supporting individuals with disabilities while raising community awareness. In northwest Syria, over 37 percent of the population lives with disabilities, a figure significantly higher than the global average of 15 percent. This high rate is largely due to the conflict and limited access to proper medical care.
We wanted to share with you a few highlights from the campaign!
Throughout the week, the initiative has featured workshops and training sessions focused on empowering the community to connect and learn how to better treat people with disabilities.
We installed guideboards throughout the Sarmada community to promote better terms and interactions with people with disabilities. Awareness is the first step toward building a more inclusive and compassionate society—one where everyone belongs.
We organized an exhibition where people with disabilities could showcase their creativity, handicrafts, skills, and abilities! It was a huge success!
We brought the initiative to a close with a celebration ceremony, highlighting the stories, voices, and talents of people with disabilities in our communities.
We are grateful to everyone who participated and to our partners who make this initiative possible!
