OUR EMERGENCY SHELTER FOR CHILDREN

Our Interim Alternative Care Center in Azaz, northwest Syria, is a one-of-a-kind emergency shelter for unaccompanied and separated children.

What do we do?

We provide every vulnerable child who comes through our doors with an interim home where they can heal, learn, and reunite with or find a family.  We are not an orphanage - we believe every child belongs in a supportive and loving family and not an institution.

Every day, our dedicated team offers these children comprehensive case management services and support, including:

  • A nurturing home with dedicated caregivers who provide care, structure, and stability.

  • Accelerated learning support enrollment to help them catch up on their education.

  • Psychosocial support services to address trauma and emotional needs.

  • Arrange health services to ensure their physical well-being.

  • Facilitate family reunification or kinship care so every child has a loving and supportive family.

Who is it for?

We support the most neglected children - children who are unaccompanied and separated. These are children who have been separated from both parents and relatives and are not being cared for by an adult.

Currently, we are caring for 14 boys and girls ages 3- 15, but our center now has the capacity to support up to 22 children. Each child stays with us for an average of six months, during which we work to address their immediate needs and ultimately have them leave our center with family.

This isn’t something we do alone. We work hand-in-hand with other partners and the child’s families to provide the all-around support they need to stay together. We understand that often there are socio-economic factors that lead to separation. By tackling the root causes together, we help prevent future separations and ensure families stay together.

Why do we do it?

Because every child deserves a loving and supportive family.
