Water Pipeline Rehabilitation - Improving Fatema’s Daily Life
April 17th 2024.
Displaced from her hometown of Andan, Syria, ten years ago, Fatema and her family were offered a house by a local family in Azaz upon arrival. However, because of the war, their access to water was made more difficult. She highlights that: “Due to the frequent shelling in the area, the water pipeline to the neighborhood was damaged. Initially, civil society organizations provided water and in-kind assistance to us. However, this support ceased five years ago, and we had to purchase water, which was a heavy burden on our large family.”
Due to the difficulties in accessing water, SARD started implementing its water pipeline rehabilitation project, as a means to make water readily available to families and communities. For Fatema and her family, this meant lowering the financial burden of trying to access water. “SARD implemented water pipeline extension works to the neighborhood, which helped us to end the suffering and high monthly expenses that burdened our large family of 15 members.”
In 2023, SARD’s water line rehabilitation program allowed for the reconstruction of 12 sewage systems and 2 water networks. Infrastructure rehabilitation improved the lives of over 63, 000 people. Fatema explains: “When we saw the water coming through the newly extended pipelines, joy filled our hearts, and we wish all the best to SARD for their contribution to poor communities.”
